Former Blues Star's NRL Career in Doubt: Exploring Options in the UK Super League
The future of Jack Bird in the NRL is uncertain, with reports suggesting his career may be coming to an end. According to the Daily Telegraph, the Tigers are considering releasing the 30-year-old player as he seeks opportunities in the UK Super League to revive his career.
Bird's fall from grace began midway through the 2025 season when he was dropped from the team for the club's final six games. Despite being granted permission to leave at the end of the season, his future remained unclear.
Initially, Bird was linked to a potential swap deal with the Manly Sea Eagles, but these talks fell through, leaving him without a clear path forward.
While there were rumors that Bird could stay at Concord, recent discussions with the London Broncos about a move to the Betfred Championship have also ended due to the club's failure to secure promotion and ongoing salary cap restrictions.
The Broncos, now under the ownership of Darren Lockyer and coaching of Jason Demetriou, have already signed several NRL players, including Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Dean Hawkins, Savelio Havili, and Luke Smith. Bird is still actively seeking a Super League opportunity, with roster spots available across multiple clubs.
His departure from the Tigers would provide the team with additional salary cap flexibility and an extra spot in their top-30 squad, which could be crucial for retaining key young talent like Jahream Bula.
Bird's career has been marked by a series of setbacks, having played for the St George Illawarra Dragons, Brisbane Broncos, and Cronulla Sharks. However, he has only managed 17 appearances over the past three seasons due to injuries.
The question remains: will Bird find a new home in the UK Super League, or will his NRL career come to a definitive end?
