In an exciting development for Disney fans, Jeff Vahle, the President of Walt Disney World Resort, has publicly praised Josh D'Amaro as he transitions into his new role as CEO of The Walt Disney Company. Vahle took to LinkedIn to express his heartfelt congratulations to D'Amaro, who is set to succeed Bob Iger on March 18, 2026.
"Josh D'Amaro is truly the real deal—he connects with people in a genuine way and exhibits outstanding leadership qualities, all while possessing a fervent passion for steering Disney into its bright future," Vahle remarked. His message was accompanied by a photo illustrating D'Amaro's fun-loving spirit at work, which highlights his approachable nature in a high-pressure environment.
Vahle wrapped up his post by conveying the warm wishes from the entire Walt Disney World team, saying, "All of us here at Walt Disney World celebrate Josh's achievement and wish him the very best as he embarks on this new chapter as CEO of The Walt Disney Company."
A Strong Professional Relationship
Vahle’s connection with D'Amaro runs deep, having worked under him since D'Amaro took on the role of Chairman of Disney Experiences in 2020. Vahle himself became the President of Walt Disney World Resort in 2019, and both leaders bring decades of Disney experience to the table—Vahle is entering his 36th year with the company, while D'Amaro has dedicated 28 years to Disney.
Before Vahle's appointment, D'Amaro served as the President of Walt Disney World Resort from 2019 until 2020, before advancing to his role as Chairman.
Potential Leadership Transitions
In light of D'Amaro's promotion, Vahle is seen as one of three key executives considered for the role of Chairman of Disney Experiences. In his current position, Vahle oversees a staggering workforce of around 80,000 cast members across four theme parks, over 25 resort hotels, two water parks, a sports complex, and Disney Springs.
Since he assumed his position five years ago, Vahle has been instrumental in launching significant attractions such as Tiana's Bayou Adventure, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and the revamped Test Track. He is also overseeing multi-billion-dollar investments aimed at expanding Magic Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
In addition to his responsibilities at Walt Disney World, Vahle manages Worldwide Safety, Health, Engineering, and Sourcing for Disney Experiences, showcasing the breadth of his expertise. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University and an MBA from Rollins College.
Other Contenders for Leadership
Alongside Vahle, Thomas Mazloum, the President of Disneyland Resort, and Ken Potrock, the President of Major Events Integration, are also being considered as potential successors to D'Amaro.
Mazloum has an impressive track record, having previously served as President of Disney Signature Experiences and led the Disney Cruise Line during a period of significant expansion, aiming to double the fleet size by 2031. Before stepping into his current role, he was Senior Vice President of Operations at Walt Disney World Resort.
Potrock, who has amassed 30 years of experience with Disney, previously held the position of President of Disneyland Resort. He currently spearheads Disney's involvement in major sports, entertainment, and tourism events, including preparations for the 2028 LA Summer Olympics.
The Future of Disney Leadership
As it stands, Disney has not yet disclosed who will take over D'Amaro's position as Chairman of Disney Experiences or when this decision will be made. D'Amaro's ascension to CEO leaves a significant vacancy at the helm of Disney's largest business segment, which generated an impressive $36 billion in annual revenue in FY2025 and employs approximately 185,000 cast members worldwide.
The Chairman of Disney Experiences is a crucial role, overseeing 12 theme parks, 57 resort hotels, Disney Cruise Line, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Disney Consumer Products.
D'Amaro's Impressive Journey
D'Amaro, at 54 years of age, began his journey with Disney in 1998 at Disneyland Resort. He made his mark as President of Disneyland Resort before taking the reins at Walt Disney World Resort in 2019, ultimately becoming Chairman of Disney Experiences in 2020.
In his capacity as Chairman, D'Amaro has been pivotal in the development of major attractions, including Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, Avengers Campus, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, and the upcoming World of Frozen. Currently, he is supervising ambitious expansion projects, including a Monsters, Inc.-themed land at Disney Hollywood Studios and the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom’s history.
The Disney Board of Directors unanimously voted to appoint D'Amaro as CEO just yesterday, paving the way for him to succeed Bob Iger at the company's Annual Meeting on March 18, 2026. Meanwhile, Iger will remain active as a Senior Advisor and Board member until his retirement, which is scheduled for December 31, 2026.
