In a significant development, Ireland's utility back, Ciarán Frawley, has announced his departure from Leinster to join Connacht next summer. This move comes after a successful seven-year stint at Leinster, where Frawley has made over 100 appearances and contributed to the club's five Pro12/United Rugby Championship titles. The 28-year-old, known for his versatility as a fly-half, centre, or full-back, has also earned nine caps for Ireland, including a memorable Test victory over South Africa in Durban in 2024, where he sealed the win with two late drop-goals.
Frawley expressed his excitement about the new opportunity, stating, "I'm thrilled to represent Connacht both on and off the field from next season. My visits to the province with Leinster have always been marked by the incredible passion of the supporters and the team's positive rugby style."
He continued, "I've had an incredible time at Leinster, and I'm grateful for the support from fans, coaches, and teammates over the past seven years. There's still much to achieve, and I'm eager to finish the season strongly before transitioning to Galway in the summer."
Connacht's head coach, Stuart Lancaster, praised the acquisition, calling it a "clear statement of intent." He added, "I've known Ciarán well from my time at Leinster, and I've witnessed his transformation from an academy player to a key senior squad member and an Ireland international. At 28, he's still in the prime of his career, and I'm delighted that the club has secured a player of his caliber. He will undoubtedly be a valuable asset in the years to come."
