Manchester City's Dominance: Antoine Semenyo Scores on Debut in 10-1 FA Cup Win
Manchester City's dominance in the FA Cup was on full display as they thrashed League One side Exeter City 10-1, with Antoine Semenyo scoring on his debut. The forward, who completed a £65m move from Bournemouth on Friday, started repaying his fee with a goal and assist in the second half.
Manager Pep Guardiola, serving a one-game touchline ban, picked a strong starting 11 that proved too powerful for Exeter. The game was effectively over within 12 minutes as City scored three goals, with Max Alleyne opening the scoring, Rodri netting a 30-yard thunderbolt, and Jake Doyle-Hayes and Jack Fitzwater both scoring own goals.
Exeter, with a 7,800-strong following, had a chance to take the lead early on, but Liam Oakes' header was pushed over by James Trafford's sharp save. The second half saw City rack up six more goals, with Rico Lewis poking home from Semenyo's cross, the Ghanaian rolling home a lovely finish, and Tijjani Reijnders, Nico O'Reilly, and Ryan McAidoo all netting.
Exeter's George Birch, 19, scored a consolation goal late on, but there was still time for Lewis to score the 10th. The win sees City advance to the FA Cup fourth round, with the draw taking place on Monday.
This was a display of City's ruthless efficiency, and Semenyo's debut was a promising start to his City career.
